Being an Air Show Volunteer

In honor of the volunteer application going live on the website, we got the exclusive opportunity to chat with VP of the Air Show board, Amy Bottegal, to hear about her experiences volunteering for past years' Stuart Air Shows.

✈ What types of volunteer roles have you performed?

The finance room counting money, finance room running for money, survey coordinator, volunteer coordinator, grounds, vendor coordinator, board and VP

✈ Why do you volunteer for the Stuart Air Show?

Everyone asks me that... and my answer is always, because I love it!  My non-airshow friends think I’m crazy!  I started in the finance room counting money and each and every year after that I looked forward to September, because that’s when the committee meetings started and that meant it was Airshow time!  The show is electrifying, and if you've never done it, you can't understand it.  We’re like a family that meets up once a year, we work our butts off to put on the best event in town, and we all have the greatest time doing it!  The friends I’ve made over the last 10 years at the show will be friends I have for life!

✈ Can you tell us about any cool "insider" experiences you've had volunteering?

Last year, I got to meet a WASP (Women Airforce Service Pilots) of WW II and it very cool Bernice “Bee” Falk Haydu, an amazing women of her time, and her family were our guests at the show.  They spoke to the crowd, took pictures, gave out pins that Disney made just for them, and Bee signed her book, “Letters from Home”, for the fans.  It was an amazing experience.

✈ Why would you recommend someone volunteer for the Stuart Air Show?

The main reasons are it’s TONS of fun, there’s amazing people, and it’s for a GREAT cause.  My hopes are that these volunteers would catch the SAS bug and join us every year!

✈ Is there any advice you have for someone who is considering volunteering for the Stuart Air Show?

Yes, my advice is to work hard and have fun and remember the reason you are here, which is to give back all of what we make on this show to our local charities!  We all are volunteers and we put a lot of time and effort into this event and we expect the same out of you!
